Kingsland & Pile Architects were engaged to provide a completely new interior concept for this chain of coffee shops. Every opportunity was taken to remain consistent with the ‘coffee bean’ theme.
The main feature, viewed upon entry by the customer, is the flavoured coffee bean wall. All the flavoured coffees offered are on display and are dispensed from here. This wall then continues as a beam over the servery culminating at the cash area at the far end of the servery counter. Wood panels of various bean colours front the servery counter and various other merchandise display units.
In the seating areas, tabletops feature a simplified bean shape pattern developed for Flavor Coffee which on occasion shows up as a small portal window. The fabric for the booth seats was deliberately chosen for it’s bean like pattern and colours as was the bar stool seats. The booth seating also features overhanging canopies of dried vine branches alluding to a form of rustic shelter creating a more intimate setting while seated.
The smoking room features a wood and patterned glass screen of an organic nature and a waving gypsum board ceiling.Other theme finishes are used throughout such as two coloured bamboo floor planks, slate floor and wall tiles and the odd raw steel beam. Throughout the café, coffee colours, curving organic forms and patterns, and natural finishes, constantly remind us of how important the coffee bean is to this place, the aromas do the rest.
