Kingslandv Architects Inc. have been commissioned to provide complete architectural services for the new addition and renovations to Highland Public School in Cambridge. Highland Public School is an elementary school located in the old Town of Galt. The original brick building was built in the 50’s. A port-a-pak classroom addition was built in the 90’s.
The existing school is presently in need of an expansion to accommodate the Ministry of Education’s requirement for full-day Kindergarten, however, due to topography, the school is on a very tight site and there were no options for outward expansion beyond the outline of the existing school. The design exercise was to determine how to create the larger classrooms required. The where, was previously determined by the Board to tear down the existing six classroom port-a-pak addition and expand the existing school by adding four new Kindergarten classrooms where the port-a-pak stood. The Kindergarten classrooms are of course much larger in size and just fits within the previous eastern edge of the port-a-pak.
This project has been tendered under budget.
