The existing school, consisting of an original historic building designed and constructed in 1924 by our predecessors Craig and Madill Architects and additions in 1964 and 1986, required an extensive interior renovation to address deficiencies with program, Barrier Free access and washrooms and security. Kingsland+ Architects Inc. provided The Durham District School Board with a design that completely renovated the interior spaces of the 1924 and 1964 sections of the school increasing the Library and Office areas, increased security within the building by moving the Office to a more visible location at the front of the building, installation of a lift at the main entrance providing Barrier Free access to all floors, provision of a Barrier Free accessible washrooms on the lower floor and, at the same time, respecting the historical nature of the original school building.
The existing 76 M² Library space located within the 1964 addition was converted to classroom and the unutilized lower floor of the original 1924 building finished to create a new 92 M² Library, Seminar Room and two Classrooms.
