Langstaff Secondary School was an existing mid ‘60’s high school originally designed for 750 students. The population of the school, prior to the addition and renovation, had almost doubled to 1,350 students. The existing facilities including the library, cafeteria, science and computer labs involved extensive renovations to better accommodate the demands of present program requirements.
This project consisted of a new addition to and complete renovation of the existing building. The expansion, in addition to 22 new classrooms, included a new library, staff room, ‘Integrated Technology’ or industrial arts classroom and double gym. The renovation included upgrades to the science labs, new air conditioning, new hot water heating and ventilation systems, a new fire sprinkler system, new lighting and ceiling systems, as well as, fire safety improvements. The main entrances and the administration area were also considered for renovation at this time.
The construction strategy of working in phases enabled the operations of the school to continue for the entire duration of construction.
