Scarborough Centre for Alternative Studies is a learning facility shared by both the Scarborough Board of Education and Centennial College. It features training facilities in the hospitality, cosmetology, and multimedia arts. The centre offers academic and vocational courses for mature students choosing to return and complete their secondary education. The Centre opened in 1994.
Due to this need to share facilities, and with the chosen site adjacent to existing Centennial campus buildings, the design required an attitude which would provide the Scarborough Board with a unique building of its own while, at the same time, Centennial College with an affiliated building that would physically integrate with the existing campus providing much needed classrooms.
